Update 4th December 2016

If you have always thought about buying one of our high quality classic pieces of furniture such as the Wishbone or Eames Chair at a great price, now is the time to do it.

Swivel have been part of ECHO, a consortium lobying the Government over the past 4 years to 'bring you the best for the most for the least' as originally intended by Charles and Ray Eames. However, on the 28th April 2016 the Swiss multinational, with the threat of a Judicial review against the Government got their way. This means the copyright term is changing from 25 years of first manufacturer to 70 years after the designer has died. This will bring back copyright to many classic pieces of furniture. The Governments proposal can be found here

In the Summer of this year the Government made the amendment to Section 52 of the copyright Law which prevents us from importing designs introduced to the market after 1957. These designs include the Arne Jacobsen Egg chair, Swan chair and the Norman Cherner barstool to name a few. We have been given a deadline of the 28th January 2017 to sell all of these items. Due to this restriceted selling period they have been selling fast and we now have just a few left.

Last month the Government published a proposal to amend a further section of the Copyright Law which deals with products designed before 1957. The bad news is that the proposal will also grant copyright to these designs. The one upside is that we have been given a further deadline to sell these products by the 6th April 2017. The Governments new proposal can be found here

Over the last few days our factory have now agreed a deadline for SELECTED items as to be manufactured if the order is given to us by the 5th of January 2016. This means If you order a non stock item before this date it will arrive in the UK 3 weeks before this deadline, giving us plenty of time to deliver.

We currently have 1000's of products in stock and more items pre 1957 arriving shortly. These products have a faster delivery time, but for those designs which are not already on order or custom made, we ask that you please place your order before 5th January 2017. We are expecting a large influx of orders before this date so please do not miss out and order now.

Q. So what's happening?

The copyright law in the UK is changing from 25 years of first manufacturer to 70 years after the designer has died.

Q. How do I know if a product is not in stock or not coming into stock.

If, when you select your product options the delivery time is showing 8-10 or 10-12 weeks this means the item is not in stock or on order. Theseitems you will need to order with us as soon as possible.

Q. How will this affect me as a consumer?

After the 6th of April 2017, you can no longer buy replicas of your favourite products designed before 1957.

Q. If I place an order, will I get it in time?

Q. Will you be closing down your business?

Not at all! We are launching a new exciting range of products exclusive to Swivel UK in the coming months and we have a brand new sister website with even more exclusive designs.

Q. How will this affect the warrenty of my products?

In the unlikley event of a product arriving damaged or breaking within the 12 month warrenty period, we will be able to replace parts or fix it for free. This will be done on a case by case basis.
