Pierre Paulin Style
French interior designer Pierre Paulin best-known for his extensive use of unusual materials. Born in Paris in 1927, he completed his education at the École Camondo, the same school as modern French artist Philippe Starck. Finding influence in Scandinavian design and the work of Charles and Ray Eames, his first formal job was in the studio of designer Marcel Gascoin. Paulin’s experimentation with furniture design began in the late 1950’s. Indeed, between 1960 and 1970, he designed a series of chairs for a famous Dutch design firm; among them the sleek Orange Slice Chair and the Mushroom Chair. Both chairs, known for their playful and modern composition, have become bestsellers.
