Warren Platner Style
Architect and designer Warren Platner was born in 1916, in Baltimore, USA. Having majored in Architecture at Cornell University School in 1941, he gained professional experience in the offices of prominent architect of the time, Eero Saarinen. In 1965, Platner opened his own firm in Connecticut. Indeed, it was around this time that the architect received funding to develop what would become known as his signature collection - the ‘Platner collection’. For this series of chairs, ottomans and tables, he designed both the structure and organised production. Manufacturing the collection was, at first, complicated because the sculptural bases are made of hundreds of metal rods; indeed, the chairs are said to have required more than 1,000 welds. Nevertheless, the dedication and time put in eventually paid off; Platner was invited into Interior Design Magazine’s Hall of Fame in 1985 and received numerous design awards for his furniture and architectural designs. Indeed, even after his death in 2006, his work is revered by many.
